Horsington Village in 1965
Horsington lies on the B1190 between Lincoln and Horncastle. The area of the village is 2615 acres and it is mainly agricultural, several of the people being farmers or farm workers. Others go to work in Bardney, Lincoln, Woodhall Spa or Horncastle. At the last census there were 209 people in the village living in 72 separate dwellings with most of the houses on the main road.
Horsington has an Anglican Church and a Methodist Church both of which have Sunday Schools. The curate of the Anglican Church and the Minister of the Methodist Church lives in Bardney.
There is a Primary School which caters for children up to the age of eleven years, after which they are taken by bus to Horncastle, either to the Grammar School or to the Secondary Modern School.
There is a Post Office and a telephone exchange, the latter being fully automatic. There is a general Shop and a public House, the Elder Tree. Vans call from Horncastle, Bardney and Woodhall Spa. The village is served by a baker, 4 butchers, a grocer, 2 fishmongers and the Cooperative Society. For weekday shopping many people go to Horncastle and Lincoln.
There is a bus service to Horncastle and Lincoln with 7 buses running each day to Lincoln and 6 to Horncastle. There are 3 buses each day to and from Woodhall Spa and Boston. There are about 40 private cars in the village.
The doctors that serve the village come from Horncastle and Woodhall Spa. There are 2 District Nurses, one living in Wragby and one in Coningsby. There is a small hospital at Horncastle and patients also go to Lincoln and Louth.
There are activities for both sexes and all ages. The children have a Youth Club, the women have the WI and the men have the Y.M.C.A. For those who like reading the library van calls every four weeks and brings good selection of books both fiction and non-fiction.
