Stihl chainsaw pioneers and main dealers

ORIGINS

The origins of the company was a timber business, founded by Rowland H. Hill in 1922. It continues to operate, producing quality firewood today. It was here that Rowland's son, Charles, gained his long-standing practical experience of chainsaws and the timber trade. As chainsaws were first introduced, he could see their huge potential and eventually sold his first Stihl chainsaw in 1964. Charles H Hill Ltd has grown from that day and is now a well-established and well-known firm in Lincolnshire. Charles passed away in 2021 and left the company in the hands of his son Graham. All three generations lived and worked in the village.

Graham retired and closed the business at the end of 2025.
PREMISES

The workshop and showroom were situated off Moor Lane and were built at the front of the old timber yard in the 1960's. A  2026 planning application seeks to develop the premises into a private dwelling.

NB. Charles Hill made and donated three wonderful cast signs that provide a unique entrance to the village (see photo on the Home page).
